We are well into September and my favorite season of all- fall!- but sooner than we all would like it will be cold and snowy here in Chicago. Luckily this summer we had a lot of fun outdoors with friends and family and certainly got our fill of Summertime!
Our weekend in Door County, WI with Uncle Brian and Aunt Debbie was a great time!
So, it’s Tuesday but here is a very simple recipe for a busy Monday evening. I used some veggies I had a round the house- a zucchini, tomato, red onion, and broccoli.
On Saturday evening family and friends all gathered to celebrate the 80th birthday of Mike’s grandmother at Mike’s parents house. I was so glad the weather was nice and the rain held off. It was lovely to be outside.
On Saturday night we headed into the city to Logan Square for dinner at Longman and Eagle which was truly exceptional. While we waited for our table I enjoyed a Pabst, the classic (cheap) hipster beer of choice.
It was a little chilly but nice to be outside and our large party was seated much more quickly this way. The wait inside was around 3 hours if I am not mistaken. A round of hot tea was ordered halfway through the meal which helped.
Slagel Family Farm Pork Belly Confit, Squash Risotto, Apples, Chestnut,
Soy Caramel. This was insanely good.
Ricotta Gnuddi, Asian Pear Black Walnut Jam, Butternut Squash Veloute,
Brown Butter Sage Emulsion. This was one of the ‘small plates’ off the menu and it was indeed, very small. I hear it was tasty though.
Mike, Drew and I shared this: Bittersweet “Manjari” Chocolate Tart, Bourbon Tapioca, Malt Cream. The malt cream was out of this world delicious.
After a fabulous dinner and collaboration on a hilarious new musical, we headed down the street to the Rocking Horse. This bar has several great beers on tap and they were cheap. I purchased a round for Drew, Mike and myself for 9 bucks.
It was a great night out with that included some awesome food with great company!
I didn’t do a lot of cooking on Friday or Saturday because we had plans out. First up was a trip to the Goodman on Friday night to see Mary…
Our Valentine’s celebration started on Saturday night with a reservation at Pete Millers in Evanston. Hubs was in the mood for steak and I was feeling like seafood.
